PSALM 12

Psalm 12 deserves a highlight, because it perfectly describes the way in which I feel currently. The vain toward humanity, the deliberation about where we went wrong, the struggle to remain hopeful. I would love to paste the short psalm here for reference, but I think it’s best read for yourself, in its entirety. The NIV translation can be found here

I never imagined David to feel the same emotions as I do today. A man who lived so long ago, and much closer to knowing Jesus, is capable of having the same questions which I ponder 2000 years after Christ. I feel more isolated each day for my decision to follow Jesus. It’s more a “shameful” decision than a source of eternal pride for today’s generation, and it seems as though faith has declined so severely there is no possible recovery. But David validates this in his own time: “Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore. Those who are loyal have vanished from the human race”. He, too, saw the disparity.

David notes further commonalities, that “everyone lies to their neighbor”, “they flatter with their lips”, and have “boastful tongue”. Daily these behaviors become normalized by the current population of non-believers. And habits of boastfulness, falsification, and flattering are only heightened through social media.

It is so difficult to remain strong when “Vile is honored by the human race”. But in the end, the faithful will prevail, as the Lord is fair and righteous to all. It is always reassuring to witness scripture’s writers connect on a personal level. They were human, capable of sin, and lived among all people. Nothing more than time separates us from them.
